Glyphs
Major Glyphs
- Glyph of Holy Light is, by far, the greatest glyph available for holy paladins. Use it. The AoE effect of the heal can easily reach 15-20% of your total healing.
- Glyph of Flash of Light as of 3.0.8 provides an additional 5% critical chance of Flash of Light. This change has actually made this glyph useful and can easily replace Glyph of Divinity.
- Glyph of Divinity is basically a free potion if you really need it. A useful glyph for any healer.
- Glyph of Seal of Light and Glyph of Seal of Wisdom are both great glyphs, but since you can only have one seal up at a time it's useful to pick one glyph and not equip both.
Minor Glyphs
Being a minor glyph these provide very little in game-changing buffs. Even so there are some that go well with a raiding holy paladin and some that don't.
- Glyph of the Wise saves you some mana when using Glyph of Seal of Wisdom to keep the seal up. These two glyphs complement each other well.
- Glyph of Blessing of Wisdom provides a slight bonus while grinding but doesn't help in a dungeon or raid environment.
- Glyph of Blessing of Kings saves some mana which is minimally useful for re-buffing mid-fight, but really doesn't help anywhere else.
- Glyph of Lay on Hands provides an additional 20% mana to your Lay on Hands target which, with Glyph of Divinity, gives you an additional 20% mana as well.
Talent Builds
Note: If you plan on raiding do not get Pure of Heart. It may seem useful but it also cuts down the disease time on Grobbulus' Mutating Injection which effectively gives any paladin with that talent 4 seconds to get distance from the group instead of 10 seconds.
- 51/0/18+2 - Holy build without blessing buffs. Two free points to buff a blessing or pick up something else for utility. (13% holy crit before any stats/gear)
- 51/5/15 - Standard holy build with Blessing of Kings. (10% holy crit before any stats/gear)
- 51/0/15+5 - Holy with improved Blessing of Wisdom and the capabilities to pick up either Blessing of Kings or improved Blessing of Might.
Dungeons
Typically, if you are wearing gear appropriate to your level there should be no problems healing that dungeon. A few exceptions include the painful AoE of Utgarde Keep, the AoE from the Nexus, and some of the bosses of Violet Hold.
The level of your gear doesn't matter if the tank is bad, the dps is stupid, group dps is low, or you aren't prepared for the instance. Any of these things can doom a group before it gets started and would be no fault of the healer.
Heroics
Base stats
For easier heroics the minimum stats you want for healing are:
- 15,000 Mana
- 1300-1500 Spell Power
- Enough Hitpoints to not die.
Primary Healing
Your primary spell should be Flash of Light.
Sacred Shield should be applied liberally to the main tank as well as others that are taking any more than passive damage. This spell is one reason pallies can remain competitive in heroic healing.
Holy Light should be used substantially less than Flash of Light but never risk someone dying because you used the smaller heal, overheal is something that the Paladin class excels at.
Raiding
Base Stats
Realistically these can be the same as your heroic stats. Having these same stats can force the requirement of a 3rd healer for the run as those stats aren't quite enough to main heal all of a Naxxramus run. Main heal raid or heroic raid stats:
- 21,000 Mana+
- 1700-1900+ Spell Power
- 15,000+ Hitpoints
Primary Healing
Unlike heroic dungeon healing your spell of choice varies more while raid healing. Flash of Light is still your primary heal if you aren't main-healing the tank. Also, if the Main Tank healer isn't a paladin, tossing Sacred Shield on the tank helps quite a bit. If the main tank healer is a paladin then don't use Sacred Shield on the Main Tank as the main healer's shield will likely be better than your own. It is the healer's responsibility to keep it up on the tank. In raids where group or individual damage tends to spike having Holy Light ready to cast is very important.
