Glory of the Hero
This is a guide to the achievements associated with Glory of the Hero. Completing this achievement awards you with the Red Proto-Drake mount.
Utgarde Keep
On the Rocks
Defeat Prince Keleseth in Utgarde Keep on Heroic Difficulty without shattering any Frost Tombs.
This is a fairly simple achievement. However, each player must be able to live through a frost tomb and the tank must be able to survive for 20s in case the healer is frozen. PVP trinkets, the human racial, iceblock, and divine protection all work to remove the frost tomb. Cloak of Shadows, Icebound Fortitude, and the Beast Within can be used while the boss is casting the spell in order to avoid the ice tomb.
Utgarde Pinnacle
Incredible Hulk
Force Svala Sorrowgrave to kill a Scourge Hulk on Heroic Difficulty in Utgarde Pinnacle.
Before engaging the boss, the tank grabs a scourge hulk and it is killed to about 10-20% health. Engage the boss, while the tank simply holds the hulk. After the boss begins a sacrifice, the tank needs to drag the hulk underneath her sword without standing under it themselves. When the sword hits the hulk, it will die.
My Girl Loves to Skadi All the Time
Defeat Skadi the Ruthless in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Difficulty after having killed Grauf from 100% to dead in a single pass.
There are two methods for this:
- Players (usually DPS) gather 5 harpoons. When the group has collected 5, all players use them at the same time during the next pass when Grauf is in range of the harpoon launchers.
- The encounter can be reset, so you can start it, gather up 5 harpoons, reset the encounter by running into the previous room where the animal bosses were, and then instantly blast Grauf out of the sky when the event is restarted.
Lodi Dodi We Loves to Skadi
Defeat Skadi the Ruthless in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Difficulty within 3 minutes of starting the gauntlet event.
Again, there are two methods to this achievement
- This will require very good dps. Gathering 5 harpoons should take about 2 minutes. As soon as the boss lands, you have about a minute to kill the boss.
- As noted in the previous achievement, you can reset the event. Gather 5 harpoons, reset the event, and use the harpoons to bring Grauf down during the first pass. This leaves plenty of time to kill him.
King’s Bane
Defeat King Ymiron in Utgarde Pinnacle on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in the party triggering Bane.
King Ymiron will cast Bane on himself from time to time. The trick is to not damage him while he has the buff, though dots will not trigger the spell. This is recommended anyway as it is difficult to heal through the damage it causes when triggered.
Nexus
Split Personality
Defeat Grand Magus Telestra in The Nexus on Heroic Difficulty after having killed her images within 5 seconds of each other during both splits.
Using aoe to kill the adds is not always recommended. Enabling enemy health bars can make this easier. The frost add will not die wihle she is casting blizzard and will remain at 1hp until the spell is done being cast.
Chaos Theory
Defeat Anomalus in The Nexus on Heroic Difficulty without destroying any Chaotic Rifts.
This fight is mostly about healing output. The DPS must switch between killing the boss and adds and not the rifts. AOE cannot be used as it will hit the rifts. Addtionally, you can kite the boss all around the room as far as is needed. With the DPS and healer farthest away from the boss, the tank will be taking the most damage. The rifts can hit from infinite range, however, this focuses the damage on the tank. Be sure to clear out any areas you'd like to kite the boss to beforehand.
Intense Cold
Defeat Keristrasza in The Nexus on Heroic Difficulty without allowing Intense Cold to reach more than two stacks.
This is an individual achievement- the group does not need to be working on it for you to get it. You must jump or move to avoid the debuff from stacking. You can dispell the shackles that immobilize you by using shapeshifting, racial abilities such as Escape Artist or Every Man for Himself, pvp trinkets, and Free Action Potions.
Heroic Occulus
Experienced Drake Rider
On three different visits to The Oculus, get credit for defeating Ley-Guardian Eregos while riding an Amber, Emerald, and Ruby drake on Heroic Difficulty.
Make it Count
Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty within 20 minutes of Drakos the Interrogator's death.
This is a fairly difficult achievement. Note that the timer begins after the first boss dies. Everyone needs to know exactly where to go and the tank needs to chain pull. It is possible to avoid many of the drake adds by mounting at the very edge of a platform and staying with the other drakes as you fly. You must always cut through the center of the ring in the middle and not fly around the edge. DPS must be good on the bosses and trash. It is possible with any drake combo, but using a standard group of 1 red, 1 green, and 3 amber is recommended. The final boss takes a long time, but it is possible to get to him with more than 7 minutes remaining. Everyone needs to know exactly where to go and the tank needs to chain pull.
Ruby Void
Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in your party using a Ruby Drake.
You can no longer do this achievement by using only green drakes. The easiest way is to use 5 amber drakes. The trick is to use the stacks of static shock correctly and to use time stop at appropriate times to avoid diminishing returns (the DR resets after 10 seconds of not casting time stop). Here is an easy way to coordinate it using Players A,B,C,D, and E.
1. Players A and B channel Temporal Rift. Players C, D, and E repeatedly use Shock Lance. While Temporal Rift is being used, Eregos takes 200% bonus damage and shock charges are stacked for the damage done to him.
2. When there are 10 shock charges for player A and B, which show up as a debuff on the boss, players C, D, and E begin to channel temporal rift. Once there are three channeling debuffs on him, Players A and B cast shock lance, once each. Due to the number of shock charges, Players A and B will do a lot of damage and immediately give players C, D, and E 10 shock charges.
3. Players A and B channel temporal rift for a few seconds until Players C, D, and E cast shock lance one to give A and B shock charges.
4. Players C, D, and E channel temporal rift for a few seconds until Players A and B cast shock lance once to give players C, D, and E shock charges.
Repeat steps 3 and 4 until dead. If your entire team was made up of computers who could perfectly time the shock lances and rifts, it is possible to kill him in 20 seconds. Ignore the whelps.
The only way you can prevent damage is using Stop Time. This will freeze Eregos and any whelps. However, after 3 casts of Stop Time within 10 seconds of the previous ST, Eregos will be immune (same as PVP diminishing returns). In order to prevent your group from taking lots of unnecessary damage, use ST three times between each time that Eregos calls out the orbs. It is recommended to use one right as the fight is started, one when he summons whelps, and one when he enrages. Then, when you are flying away from the orbs, 10 seconds should pass to reset the DR timer. On the way back from the orbs, have someone cast TS, and repeat until dead. On the kills that I have done this, we generally go through 2 orb phases.
Amber Void
Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in your party using an Amber Drake.
See "Ruby Void" above. Or any combination of emerald and ruby drakes can be used.
Emerald Void
Defeat Ley-Guardian Eregos in The Oculus on Heroic Difficulty without anyone in your party using an Emerald Drake.
Three to five amber drakes are usually used for this achievement. Using a ruby drake to tank and kill whelps can be extremely helpful if your group has trouble using the five amber combination.
Azjol-Nerub
Watch Him Die
Defeat Krik'thir the Gatewatcher in Azjol-Nerub on Heroic Difficulty while Watcher Gashra, Watcher Narjil and Watcher Silthik are still alive.
Each group around the boss is chain pulled. The tank must be well geared in order to withstand the damage from the three watchers and the boss simultaneously. Having a second tank may help as they can tank some of the watchers.
Hadronox Denied
Defeat Hadronox in Azjol-Nerub on Heroic Difficulty before he webs the top doors and prevents more creatures from spawning.
This achievement is actually very easy as long as the DPS is quick about killing Hadronox. When starting the event, have a night elf or rogue in the group who can pull one of the adds and shadowmeld or vanish. This will cause all the mobs to despawn for ~20 seconds or so. The remainder of the group should stand on the small platform in-between the two web-bridges. As soon as the mobs despawn, race down to the boss's room and have the tank pick up Hadronox as he spawns. Full-out DPS should mean you only end up having to deal with five adds or so before Hadronox dies.
Gotta Go!
Defeat Anub'arak in Azjol-Nerub on Heroic Difficulty in 2 minutes or less.
You will need well geared DPS to complete this. Curse of Tongues and Heroism/Bloodlust are helpful. Dots continue to damage the boss while he is underground. Please note that more time is being added to this achievement in a future patch, making it much easier.
Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom
Respect Your Elders
Defeat Elder Nadox in Ahn'kahet on Heroic Difficulty without killing any Ahn'kahar Guardians.
By kiting the boss to the entrance, the guardians will no longer join the fight, making this very simple. However, this may be considered an exploit. The intended method is most likely to dps the boss down before a guardian hatches.
The Party’s Over
Defeat Prince Taldaram in Ahn'kahet on Heroic Difficulty with less than 5 people.
The fifth group member can leave the group only for this boss, remain in the instance, and dps the boss, getting the other four party members the achievement.
Volunteer Work
Defeat Jedoga Shadowseeker in Ahn'kahet on Heroic Difficulty without killing any Twilight Volunteers.
A good healer and an even better tank that can take the hits that cause double damage are necessary for this. You can also kite Jedoga using the waterfall in the center of the room by jumping off the waterfall, running all the way back to the tunnel where the Prince was fought, and fighting Jedoga at the base of the tunnel. The buff will have worn off by the time Jedoga arrives.
Volazj’s Quick Demise
Defeat Herald Volazj in Ahn'kahet on Heroic Difficulty in 2 minutes or less.
The DPS, tank, and healer will all need to dps the adds down quickly during the insanity phase. Dots work on the boss while party members are afflicted by insanity.
Violet Hold
Lockdown!
Defeat Xevozz, Lavanthor, Ichoron, Zuramat the Obliterator, Erekem, and Moragg in The Violet Hold on Heroic Difficulty.
This achievement simply takes time. Run the dungeon until you get all the bosses and defeat them all.
Dehydration
Defeat Ichoron in the Violet Hold on Heroic Difficulty without allowing any Ichor Globules to merge.
DPS must destroy all the Ichor Globules before they reach Ichoron. You can also use the defense crystals around the room to kill the globules.
A Void Dance
Defeat Zuramat the Obliterator in The Violet Hold without killing any void sentries.
From time to time during the fight, Zuramat will spawn little shadow elementals and buff one person in the party so that they can see and kill the void sentries. If you have the debuff that allows you to see the sentries, do not use any aoe. This will require a competent healer as your group will be taking a lot of damage.
Defenseless
Defeat Cyanigosa in The Violet Hold without using Defense Control Crystals and with Prison Seal Integrity at 100% while in Heroic Difficulty.
Simply complete the dungeon and do not use the defense crystals. If you don't wipe, the prison seal will stay at 100%.
Drak’tharon Keep
Consumption Junction
Defeat Trollgore in Drak'Tharon Keep on Heroic Difficulty before Consume reaches ten stacks.
Trollgore casts consume randomly throughout the fight for each player or mob that is in line of sight of him. Pets do not affect consume. The easiest way to do this is for the tank to tank Trollgore to the left or right of the stairs with the rest of the party standing on the stairs. Immediately after each consume, the rest of the group can heal or dps the boss for approximately 10s, then move out of line of sight to avoid the consumes. This can also be done using the pillars to the left and right of Trollgore's platform.
Oh Novos!
Defeat Novos the Summoner in Drak'Tharon Keep on Heroic Difficulty without allowing any undead minions to reach the floor.
Two to three DPS should remain on the stairs to grab the adds while they walk down. A tank and possibly one DPS can take care of teh adds that come from the floor. This is fairly simple.

Better off Dred
Engage King Dred in Drak'Tharon Keep on Heroic Difficulty and slay 6 Drakkari Gutrippers or Drakkari Scytheclaw during his defeat.
The tank must pull King Dred with any nearby adds. DPS must kill the adds quickly. The tank then pulls more dinosaurs until six have been killed, then focus on killing the boss.
Heroic Gundrak
Snakes. Why’d it Have to be Snakes?
Defeat Slad'ran in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty without getting snake wrapped.
There are two methods to completing this achievement. The normal way is to kill the green snakes as they are the ones that use snake wrap. The boss can be tanked in the room after the one he is in or at the top of the stairs near the entrance to the instance. This will make the snakes take a long time to arrive at the group, and the boss will probably be dead by the time they get there. The bug allowing the group to stand in water and completely avoid all snakes has been fixed-now all the snakes can swim.
Less-rabi
Defeat Moorabi in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty while preventing him from transforming into a mammoth at any point during the encounter.
The boss must be interrupted each time he casts the spell that turns him into a mammoth. The interrupts that can be used are: a death knight’s mind freeze, a shaman’s earth shock or wind shock, a rogue’s kick, a mage’s counterspell, a warlock’s felhunter’s spell lock, a druid's bash, and a paladin’s hammer of justice. Using Curse of Tongues may slow the cast time and make completing this simpler.
It is also possible for one dps to pull the boss, run away until Moorabi transforms, and then die. This can bug Moorabi into remaining in mammoth form. Pulling him afterwards automatically gets you the achievement since Moorabi is already a mammoth.
What the Eck?
Defeat Gal'darah in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty while under the effects of Eck Residue.
Get hit by Eck's Eck Residue, then defeat the final boss without dying. Divine Shield, Iceblock, and Cloak of Shadows will remove the debuff.
Defeat Gal'darah in Gundrak on Heroic Difficulty and have 5 unique party members get impaled throughout the fight.
This is easiest using two tanks, even if the secnod tank is a pet. Get the boss to impale the actual tank, then the actual tank must hold the boss until he impales every player. Unfortunately, the impaling is random, so someone may be impaled at least twice before everyone is impaled. However, Gal'darah seems to usually impale the person farthest away from him, so if the party stands far away from the tank, and party members who have been impaled move near the tank, the encounter can be made less random.
Ulduar: Halls of Stone
Good Grief
Defeat the Maiden of Grief in the Halls of Stone on Heroic Difficulty in 1 minute or less.
DPS must kill the boss very quickly. PvP trinkets can be used to dispel the incapacitate.
Brann Spankin’ New
Defeat the Tribunal of Ages encounter in the Halls of Stone on Heroic Difficulty without allowing Brann Bronzebeard to take any damage.
The tank must grab all mobs before they reach Brann. The casters must be grabbed quickly or crowd controlled. Even if party members die, this achievement is still possible.
Abuse the Ooze
Defeat Sjonnir the Ironshaper in the Halls of Stone on Heroic Difficulty and kill 5 Iron Sludges during the encounter.
The simplest way to do this is to kill the boss to 50%, then allow oozes to turn into 5 iron sludges. DPS must focus on the sludges and not kill the boss before 5 sludges are formed and killed. Killing oozes before they become sludge will not count for the achievement.
Ulduar: Halls of Lightning
Lightning Struck
Defeat General Bjarngrim in the Halls of Lightning on Heroic Difficulty while he has a Temporary Electrical Charge.
Pull the boss while he has a temporary electrical charge.
Shatter Resistant
Defeat Volkhan in the Halls of Lightning on Heroic Difficulty without allowing him to shatter more than 4 Brittle Golems.
Kill the boss, ignore the golems. Most groups end up doing the fight this way anyway.
Timely Death
Defeat Loken in the Halls of Lightning on Heroic Difficulty in 2 minutes or less.
Most groups finish this achievement without trying.
Caverns of Time: The Culling of Stratholme
The Culling of Time
Defeat the Infinite Corruptor in The Culling of Stratholme on Heroic Difficulty.
This will require a well-geared group. Chain pull your way to the corruptor, the boss who drops the mount. This is the same as completing a timed Stratholme run.
Zombiefest!
Kill 100 Risen Zombies in 1 minute in The Culling of Stratholme on Heroic Difficulty.
There are two methods here:
- The zombies do not respawn after Salramm the Fleshcrafter is killed. The easiest way to get this then is to kill the first boss and all the waves leading to the second boss, then pull the boss to a zombie-less location, such as the inn. Wait for all the zombies to respawn while killing Salramm. Then you must take Arthas through the third boss, the Epoch Hunter. After the Epoch Hunter, the group must pull the approximately 85 zombies near the entrance and drag them to the area past the third boss. Once 100 zombies are rounded up, burn them down. You only get one shot at this achievement per heroic.
- Players can get the achievement anywhere in the instance, so you can follow the strategy above except some of the DPS will start at the beginning of the instance and kill zombies while the rest of the group kills the zombies after the third boss simultaneously. As long as 100 zombies die within 60 seconds anywhere in the zone by anyone, the group will get the achievement.
